US College Record - Now That Is Ridiculous

We posted a story this week on US college in regard to one of our Boomers Juniors - so it's not that we are trawling US College results now, this one actually was on The Age Web site - but sure deserves a comment here !

At an NCAA men's Division III game this week on Tuesday night, the score was 179 - 104. And the leading scorer for the winning team, Jack Taylor, scored 138 points, an all time NCAA record.

Say what ??? 138 points - yes, that was on 52 of 108 shooting, including 27 of 71 from three point range and 7 of 10 from the stripe.

Oh and BTW, on the losing side, David Larson scored 70 points from 34 of 44 with 2 from 4 free throws.

The previous record score in a single game for the NCAA was 113 points by Bevo Francis in 1954.

Ok, so let's do some maths here ... for the record, here is the box score ...

Grinnell College v Faith Baptist Box Score

Soooooo ... college games are 20 minute halves, so that's 40 minutes or 2400 seconds of total game time.

Total field goal attempts by both teams were 82 + 136 = 218 ... free throws don't count because the clock is stopped. So 2400 / 218 means one shot attempt every 11 seconds across the game.

And all 20 players on the Grinnell College roster got court time and all hit the scoresheet ... especially Jack of course ... apparently the coach likes subbing all five on court with another five every minute or so of the game ... except for Jack of course.

That leaves only one question really - HEY GUYS, HOW ABOUT SOME DEFENCE ???

Oh and by the way, young Jack played 36 of the 40 minutes for his team. His elbow needed a rest for four minutes.
