Ex SA Country State Players in Gems Team
The Gems will contest a tournament in Reze (June 4-7) against Belgium, Russia and Turkey and a tournament in Fougeres (June 11-13) against China, Lithuania and France before returning to Australia on June 16th.
The team was selected in the days following a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport and will depart for France on June 1st.
The tour is part of the team's preparation for the 2009 FIBA Under-19 Women's World Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from July 23 to August 2.
The touring team is primarily made up of athletes from the Australian Institute of Sport, with Victoria's Rebecca Allen and Queensland's Gretel Tippett the exceptions, and contains seven athletes from Victoria. Australia placed fifth at the 2007 FIBA Under-19 Women's World Championship with a 7 win, 2 loss record.
Coach of the team is Dean Kinsman.
