2014 South Australian Masters Games Host Region Announced

Sport SA congratulates Naracoorte on their successful bid to stage the 2014 South Australian Masters Games.

The successful staging of the South Australian Masters Games in 2011 was the catalyst behind the successful Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s bid and the local community is ready to present an outstanding event.

In 2011 over 1,200 participants descended on Naracoorte; a record for a four day South Australian Masters Games event, a number they are hoping to match in 2014. They are hoping that the inclusion of Dragonboats and Swimming will swell the numbers.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to host the 2014 South Australian Masters Games as the games bring many benefits such as strong community interest and support, active sports participation and an increase in the awareness of volunteers. The Games also promote tourism in our area and provide increased trade potential by local businesses.” said Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Erika Vickery.

This event will celebrate the 19th staging of the South Australian Masters Games, with previous host regions including Ceduna, Mt. Gambier, Murray Bridge, Pt. Lincoln, Pt. Pirie, the Riverland and Whyalla.

“Naracoorte is located in the heart of the Limestone Coast region and is home to a vibrant rural community including the world famous Coonawarra wine region. The area’s breathtaking scenery and natural wonders will provide an excellent backdrop for the 2014 South Australian Masters Games. We encourage all “masters athletes’ to join us and enjoy great hospitality in Naracoorte in 2014” Sport SA CEO Jan Sutherland said.

The 2014 South Australian Masters Games will be held from the 4th to 7th April.

Further information regarding dates and sports involved will be released at a later date.
