Ulverstone women had a comprehensive victory over Burnie. A big first quarter by the Redhoppers, 25 – 14, set-up the win. Ulverstone’s Shelby Rayner had one of her better games of the season with 20 points.

In front of a good crowd, Penguin took the points against the winless Latrobe. Latrobe were let down by their large number of turnovers, however, the final score was closer than expected. Latrobe’s Madalan Page played well with a game high 19 points.

In an upset, Wynyard women managed a great victory over Devonport to keep their finals chance alive. After a close first quarter the Wildcats took control of the game.

Somerset women had a huge win over the young Smithton team. Calli Schumann scored an incredible 47 points for Somerset. Smithton’s high turnover rate, enabled Somerset to score easily off fast break transition.

Burnie men’s form has plateau of late, with them just getting over the line against a gallant Ulverstone outfit. If took a big third quarter by Burnie to get the game in their terms after being down by three points at half time. The experience of Burnie’s Emmitt Smith was the difference in the game, scoring a game high 17 points.

Latrobe men are starting to make serious claims for the title favourites with another classy effort against Penguin. In a high standard game, with one point the difference at quarter time, Latrobe stepped up their offence. Brady Armstrong continued his great form, scoring a match winning 32 points.

Devonport men shot at high percentage to record a good win over Wynyard. A big third quarter by the Warriors set up their victory.  Young Nick Bingham once again led all scorers with 20 points.

Smithton men claimed an important win over Somerset. In a high standard, fast paced game, featuring some great outside shooting from the Saints and some strong rebounding from both teams. Smithton’s Brad Hardy continued his solid form, top scoring with 24 points.

Preview Friday 7th Oct.

Somerset are at home to Ulverstone. The undefeated Ulverstone women’s team take on second placed Somerset. This will be the game of the round, with the winning team to claim first spot on the ladder. The clash between Sarah O’Neill and Sami Phillips will be a great tussle.

Ulverstone men will start favourites, however, if Somerset are on song, then this will be a tight game.

Devonport take on Penguin at home. The women’s game will be of a high standard with third playing fourth on the ladder. Devonport’s Taylor Mole and Somerset’s Sami Phillips will be crucial players for both teams.

After a disappointing loss, Penguin will be keen to get a win. The young Devonport team have been in good form of late and Penguin will need to be at their best.

Burnie will have their first Friday night home game against Wynyard. Wynyard will start favourites in the women’s game and need the points to stay in contact with the top four.

Although Burnie men’s form has dropped away they should easily account for the young Wildcats.

Smithton has the long road trip to Latrobe. Both women’s teams are looking for their first win for the season. No doubt this game will go down to the wire.

Latrobe men are very good form and will continue on their winning way.
