Rollers depart for North America Cup

The Rollers departed Sydney yesterday bound for Birmingham in the USA where they will compete in the 2008 North America Cup from June 19 – 22.

The Aussies will play pool games against the US, Canada and Great Britain with the results determining whether they progress to the gold medal game or the third verse fourth playoff match.

Either way it will give Ben Ettridge and the close knit group another chance to show their Beijing opponents that they will be ready come September 6.

So far in 2008, the Rollers have claimed silver at the Beijing Paralympic Games test event in January and silver at a four-nation invitational tournament in Osnabrück, Germany earlier this month.

They were defeated by world number one Canada on both occasions – 55-49 in Beijing and 65-50 in Germany.

The Beijing Paralympics run from September 6 – 17 with the Rollers first game against Brazil at the National Indoor Sports Stadium in Beijing on Sunday 7 September, tipping-off at 4:15pm local time.
