Venom Women Win An Overtime Thriller

Warrandyte Venom gave fans their money's worth again on Saturday night with another overtime win, this time defeating Latrobe City 54-48 in dramatic fashion. With plenty of good performances across the whole team, this time it was Sharlene Dalsanto to take centre stage.

With just 8.8 second left on the clock and trailing by two points, the Venom won possession of the ball, went to the basket, missed the shot, but the ball fell to Dalsanto who was then fouled putting a shot up on the final buzzer.

Cool, calm and collected, Dalsanto went to the foul line and hit both shots, sending the crowd wild and forcing the game into overtime.

With plenty of experience when it comes to playing extra time (the Venom had already played four overtime periods this season), it was a fantastic defensive display from our girls that held Latrobe City scoreless, while the Venom added six points for a 54-48 win.

Remaining inside the division one top four, the young Venom team has now won four of its past five games and will now enjoy a week's break before hosting second-placed team Sunbury on Sunday  June 14.

In what was a brilliant team performance against Latrobe City, the leading players were captain Jaz Borella (16 points, 13 rebounds), Sharlene Dalsanto (13 points, 16 rebounds) and Janelle Lucas (12 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals).
