Venom Upstage Hawthorn In Thrilling Fashion
The young Warrandyte Venom Big V women have captured one of the club's best wins, beating the highly-fancied Hawthorn 53-50 in front of an appreciative home crowd.
Once again, with a very young team, the Venom never backed down and took it right up to their visitors. In a see-sawing contest, the Venom's ability to apply pressure defence was outstanding.
Sharlene Dalsanto (pictured) had four big blocks down the stretch and was capably assisted with looking after the opposition's forwards by Jaz Borella, Casey Taylor and Ash Brobbel.
Warrandyte's guard rotation was fantastic. Jay Lucas, Meg Dargan and Mollie Burke received terrific support from Bec Heddles, Lauren Sabidussi and Carla Sabidussi, while games record holder Chelsea Ransom was at her best.
The Venom women will now enjoy a week's break after five double-headers in the opening seven weeks of the season.
