RESPECT FOR PLAYERS AND OFFICIALS
I would like to welcome you to the AFL Brisbane Juniors and I hope you enjoy your association with us in 2009. Having just registered a child (or children) to play junior AFL it is important that you understand that by registering to participate in our game all parents, guardians and supporters have an obligation. That obligation is that you RESPECT all players and officials in our game.
The AFL Brisbane Juniors believes that every player and official deserves respect which means that they have a right to participate in any game free of verbal abuse, harassment or racial vilification and your personal cooperation and support is critical to achieving this. Your behaviour and that of any friends or relatives who go along to watch, impacts greatly on the enjoyment your child will experience while playing junior AFL. Always be positive in your encouragement and acknowledge not only your teamâs achievements but those of the other team as well; after all they too are only children or young adults trying their best.
Always remember that while your child strives to make you proud, you should also be striving to make them proud of you. Parents abusing umpires or officials is highly likely to embarrass your child, his/her friends and team mates, and is likely to result in disciplinary action being taken against you and/or your club. Remember, itâs JUST A GAME â a game for the players benefit â please support them in a positive, respectful way.
This year AFL Brisbane Juniors will combine with the other footy codes (rugby union, soccer and rugby league) to address bad behaviour at junior footy matches. On Motherâs Day 2009 all codes will participate in a âPositive or itâs Pointlessâ campaign. A brochure will be available at the club. Please read the documents and adhere to the code of conduct so that you can join the AFL Brisbane Juniors to help our players and officials enjoy their participation in the great game that is junior AFL.
