In September, the Bribie Island Junior AFL Club Committee were successful in securing a huge grant of $625,000 plus GST for Construction of new Club / Change rooms and Amenities Block.
This funding was granted from the Federal Government under their Job Stimulus package- Round 1 of Jobs Fund - Get Communities Working. The Federal Government called for applications for funding in May this year. The Jobs Fund is an integral component of the Australian Governmentâs commitment to Keep Australia Working. Projects funded through the Jobs Fund will help communities to maximize the benefits of the Governmentâs Economic Stimulus Plan and develop localized responses to the impact of the global recession
The Clubâs existing facilities are around 25 years old, and no longer meet the needs of both the Junior and Senior Clubs and their players.
This will be an exciting era for the Bribie Bulldogs and it is hoped the building works will be completed by the start of the season. Pictured is Junior President Rob Hartley with Jon Sullivan Federal Member for Longman.
The grant will help boost construction jobs on Bribie Island as well as boosting associated trades, suppliers and work experience for the Bribie High School Trades program. The Club will work closely with the Moreton Bay Regional Council in consultations with trades, design and ensuring the new facility is both functional and environmentally friendly â âGreen Smartâ, with many initiatives for natural lighting and ventilation, water tanks for the amenities plumbing and using materials sympathetic to their 'beach' environment.
The Club is excited that this new facility will enable them to move into 2010 and beyond with a bright future for the Bribie Island AFL Club.
Bribie Island Junior AFL Club would like to recognize and thank both their State Member for Pumicestone, Carryn Sullivan and the Federal Member for Longman, Jon Sullivan. The support of both members for this project has been crucial to the Clubâs successful funding application.
The Club also wishes to thank the Federal Government for supporting the need to stimulate the construction industry in the local area.
