The 2012 Under 17 Brisbane North/Sunshine Coast Team will participate in the Kooga U/17 Youth Girls State Championships to be held in Cairns from 26th-28th October 2012 for the first time allowing more girls from the Sunshine Coast region to participate.
These Championships have been held for the past six years as the Under 16 Youth Girls state Championships. Due to the introduction of the Queensland School Sport 16 years & under State Carnival and the date change of the Under 18 Youth Girls National Championships, AFL Qld has decided to change the age division to Under 17s to further the representative pathway for girls.
Due to the above selection process and because of Brisbane’s dominance in these Championships over the past 7 years, it was decided to split Brisbane North from the Brisbane team to support the Sunshine Coast region (with a new U15 league in 2012).
Selection for the team will occur throughout the Brisbane Lions Cup (School Competition in Brisbane North & Sunshine Coast), Brisbane Junior & Sunshine Coast Youth Girls Club Competitions and Women’s League followed by a trial day for Brisbane North participants on Wednesday 12 September 2012 at 6pm-8pm at (venue to be confirmed). Girls selected from these trials, will then be required to attend the Sunshine Coast trials on Wednesday 19 September from 5pm-8pm for a final squad.
From these Championships, the Qld Under 18 Youth Girls State Team will be selected for the Under 18 Youth Girls National Championships in Melbourne in May 2013.
