IOA Young Participations Session 2013

The International Olympic Academy (IOA) functions in Ancient Olympia, where the first ever Olympic Games were held in 1896.

The aim of this academy is to study, enrich and promote Olympism, under the aupices of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and it is recognised by the Olympic Charter. The IOA was officially inaugurated in 1961 and since then it has organised numerous international sessions and seminars addressed to athletes, young participants, sports officials, journalists, National Olympic Committee (NOC)s and National Olympic Academy (NOA)s delegates, educators and students offering them the opportunity to attend lecturers from specialised scientists, to exchange ideas and to live and experience Olympism.

The topics held during the “Young Participants Seminar” each covers different aspects and current issues of the Olympic Movement and the programme combines a series of lectures, discussion group meetings, presentations by the participants, guided tours to archaeological sites and museums and research at the library. The activities of the sessions include sports activities, social events, arts happenings and various workshops.

The conclusions from the discussion groups during the Sessions are forwarded to IOC for further utilisation and are published in the annual proceedings of the Sessions which are available on the IOA website:
