Sabres snap losing streak against West Women
STURT snapped a two-game losing streak with a gritty nine-point win over West Adelaide on Tuesday.
The Sabres produced a dominant first half and from there held on in a low-scoring tussle between two sides desperate for a win to keep touch with the top five.
Sturt outscored the Bearcats 43-26 in the first half before a much tighter third period.
In the last the Sabres struggled to hit a shot and managed just three points as West cut into what was at its largest a 19-point deficit.
Jordan Hunter (18 points and six rebounds) and Sarah Elsworthy (10 points) were best for Sturt, which sits sixth with two wins and two losses after four outings.
Ieva Nagy (17 points) and Ashley Vordermaier (10 points and six rebounds) were the only Bearcats in double figures.
The Sabres face a daunting challenge next start, travelling to the Adelaide Hills to face Eastern Mavericks coming off a first defeat of 2017.
West faces first-ranked Southern Tigers at Morphett Vale.
