Colourful Clubs Come Together

Wayville Sports Centre was transformed to host the family fun day event yesterday in an effort to give the basketball community a chance to celebrate our great sport.

From face painters to jumping castles, it was fantastic to see the kids get involved in the new-look event.

Basketball SA were also thrilled with the turnout by the great district clubs on the day. The sea of elite basketballers who made the effort to help launch their new season made for a successful, and colourful event for its first year.

The Captains from each team, fully kitted out, were ushered away for their VIP photoshoot with the Messenger, and our recently announced official partner, AllStar Photos.

The highlight of the day for most would be the fantastic $550 that was raised by the Rachael Sporn Academy girls during a three-point shootout for Melanoma March. Basketball SA would like to thank our friends at The Dream Basketball Academy who donated $50 per shot made by the girls, and also Rachael Sporn herself for the amazing work she does with both the Sporn Academy girls, and as CEO of the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation.

To view the video of the shootout, check out our social media pages.

Basketball SA would also like to thank Jarrod Walsh, Master of Ceremony of the event for the day, our Premier League Media Team for their coverage of the event, and to our own Mark Hubbard, CEO of Basketball SA, for his official launch speech.

With major player movements and the addition of some strong new imports, as well as the introduction of the Women’s Round and a regional game in the mix, the 2017 Premier League season is set to be full of excitement.

The start of the season is just around the corner with tip-off on April 1, and the match ups for the first round are no joke:

Eastern Mavericks vs. West Adelaide Bearcats

Norwood Flames vs. Forestville Eagles

South Adelaide Panthers vs. Central District Lions

Sturt Sabres vs. Southern Tigers

Woodville Warriors vs. North Adelaide Rockets

Round 1 will also be the first of five live streamed games of the season brought to you by our Premier League Partner, Austral Sports Media.

Stay tuned on our social media pages for more information on how to watch live as the Sturt Sabres Men attempt to redeem themselves against their 2016 Grand Final loss to the Southern Tigers.

Both Women’s and Men’s games will be live streamed so be sure to tune in if you can’t make it out to Pasadena Sports Centre on April 1.
