Rnd 5: Eagles Women hold on in tight fought game

By Connor Rice

Forestville Eagles 74 | Southern Tigers 70

In a game that was close for the entire time on Saturday night, the Eagles were eventually victorious over the Tigers. Both teams were incredibly well matched and battled back and forth both offensively and defensively for the entire game, but it was some major production for key Eagles players which saw them get over the line in the end.

The game was neck and neck throughout as both teams fought incredibly hard. Down low saw the biggest battle as Eagles star, Olivia Thompson (20 points) and Tigers star, Mollie Mckendrick (17 points) went head to head. Both averaging over 20PPG for the season, Thompson and Mckendrick are two of the more elite Women’s big’s. Inside and out, both players had great games but the rebounding advantage Thompson had was one of the major keys in their close victory.

The Eagles also ran rampant from outside shooting the three. A massive performance from Samantha Defrancesco helped the Eagles with 24 total points and 6 three-pointers proving pivotal in the win. The same could be said for the Tigers, a team who has always been good from three, with Cunnigan and Thacker both knocking in two triples each for their 14 and 13 point games.

The game was extremely evenly matched for its entirety, really only coming down to the last minute or so to separate it, as Morgan Yaeger was huge down the stretch with a few clutch baskets. Despite a couple of late three’s and solid defensive possessions, the Tigers just ran out of time to mount the come back. A few more minutes and this game could have been theirs for the taking. Alas the Eagles managed to hold own and remained victorious in a great game, winning 74-70 away.
