Women's Games Reviews - Round 1

North's Erin Lorenzini

Eastern Mavericks 81(J. Symons 18, D. Wilcox 16, A. Williams 11)
Forestville Eagles 69 (D. Ranford 27, K. Malpass 13, J. Fergus 7)

Eastern led from start to finish, with Jamie Fricker's introduction triggering an early 10-1 run. A double double from Jane Symons and some good leadership from Amanda Williams helped Eastern to the win. For Forestville, Dee Ranford had 27 points and 14 rebounds, and Kate Malpass was solid from the perimeter and the paint, but not enough Eagles were scoring.

Sturt Sabres 84 (Angela Marino 30, C. Nixon 16, H. Bowley 13)
Norwood Flames 68 (C. Stark 14, C. Boothey 13, N. Romeo 11)

This game was close until Sturt extended a 5 point ÃfÂffffÂfffÂffÂ,Ã,¾ time lead to a 16 point victory. Angela Marino was excellent, with 9 assists to go with her 30 points, and Monique Bowley had 14 rebounds. For Norwood, 15 year old Cara Boothey had 13 points, and Emily Fryters had 9 rebounds.

North Adelaide Rockets 83 (E. Lorenzini 30, T. Dhu 16, E. Wright 11)
West Adelaide Bearcats 78 (S. Woosnam 18, C. Smith 17, J. Mahony 15)

In the game of the round, North took two overtimes to break free of West. A Tania Dhu three pointer from the car park at the end of the first overtime was huge, as was 30 points from Erin Lorenzini. West came back from a 15 point half time deficit, and 20 boards from Halls medallist Sam Woosnam was a highlight. Jess Mahony was solid in her first ABA game since a knee injury 4 years ago.

Southern Tigers 84 (T. Walker 27, T. Beatty 20, L. Cannon 7)
Woodville Warriors 72 (B. Gathercole 14, V. Michael 11, S. Breavington 10)

Woodville surprised a new-look Southern, and lead by 2 at quarter time. The Tigers' defence then kicked in, keeping the Warriors to 10 points in the second quarter, and Southern maintained this lead for the rest of the game. Tamara Walker continued her Metro League and Blitz form with 4 three points and Tracey Beatty's 16 rebounds helped the Tigers to a 52-28 advantage on the boards. For Woodville, veteran Jodie Barratt had 11 rebounds and 17 year old Sharna Breavington did well in limited minutes.
