2013 Schedule Released

Basketball SA is pleased to announce the release of the schedule for the 2013 Central ABL season.

The season tips off on Saturday April 6, a week after Easter, with 5 women’s and men’s double headers scheduled for the Saturday night. Women’s reigning premiers Norwood start their 2013 campaign against a Southern team led by new coach Leigh Scott, while men’s premiers Forestville are away to Paul Bell’s Bearcats, a group looking to improve on last year’s elimination final exit.

Phil Smyth makes his debut as coach of South Adelaide’s men against North Adelaide, the Rockets again led by Adelaide 36er Pero Vasiljevic. The women’s game will see the return to Marion of former Panther Teresa Kinross, who spent recent years with Southern.

SA Metro Under 16 Women’s state coach and former CABL premiership winner Marcus Wong returns to Sturt’s women program, and the Sabres will take on a Central Districts team skippered by Andrew Jantke, who joins the Lions women’s program after a number of years in charge of Centrals’ juniors. Former 36er Brad Davidson, fresh from his first stint as coach of the SA Under 20 Men’s state team, returns to coach Norwood’s men against new Tigers coach Rashad Tucker, while

The Woodville Eastern matches at St. Clair will feature two CABL premiership winning players making their head coaching debuts. Former Flame Christian Bell is in charge of Woodville’s women, and former Eagle Will Smith is the new men’s coach at Eastern.

As in previous years, the season will involve 18 minor rounds, with the top 5 men’s and women’s teams qualifying for finals. The majority of games have been scheduled on Saturday nights, with Saturday/Sunday double rounds for most teams on April 13/14 and July 20/21.

Two rivalry rounds, featuring matchups between traditional rivals North and Norwood, Sturt and Forestville, South and Southern, Woodville and West, and Centrals and Eastern, will be played on April 20 and July 6. Forestville will host its annual ANZAC day game on the afternoon of April 25 against Centrals.

The season culminates with Grand Finals at the Adelaide Arena on Saturday August 31.
