Basketball SA is seeking applications for the positions of two Referee Commissioners.

• Senior District Referee Commissioner (for Senior Division 2 and Youth League Division 1)
• Central ABL Referee Commissioner

For the 2010/11 Summer season, rostering of the Friday Junior District competition will be performed by the District Referee Coordinator. We are trialling this process in an effort to reduce double handling and improve the timeliness of publishing rosters.

Responsibilities of the Referee Commissioners include:

• Selecting and rostering appropriate referees based on performance, accreditation level, and availability
• Liaising with the Officiating Development Manager and referees in following up on complaints and queries regarding referees
• Working with the Officiating Development Manager to ensure that development squad numbers and performance meet the required standard
• Taking a position on the Referee Appointments Committee, whose role includes the appointment of referees to national championships, panels and other positions

Desired qualities include:

• Ability to make objective decisions on referee assignments whilst considering both competition requirements and referee development needs
• Experience in assigning referees to competitions
• A knowledge of the district basketball and referee community
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Referee Commissioners report to the Officiating Development Manager, Mike Gibson. The positions will be appointed for a 12 month period from October 2010 to September 2011.
