Women's Game Review - Forestville v South Adelaide

Game Review by James Woite

The Forestville Eagles women's Central ABL team won their seventh game from eight starts with a 96-68 victory over South at Wayville. The Eagles jumped out to a double digit lead early in the match and by half-time, the match was well and truly won, with South trailing by 22 points and struggling to keep up. The Eagles were particularly dominant on the boards, winning the rebound count 51-31. Although the Panthers hustled hard for much of the second half, particularly in the last quarter where they caused several Forestville turnovers, the Eagles wound up 28 point winners.

Once again, Eagles coach Sharon Simons had the opportunity to rest her starters, but that didn't stop Mia Newley and Jess Mahony filling up the stat sheet for the second week running. Newley, who leads the league in blocked shots and is second in defensive rebounds to Eastern's Tess Madgen, went on a scoring spree, connecting on 16 of 27 field goal attempts and finished with 38 points. Mahony achieved a triple-double for the second consecutive week with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, before fouling out with 2:27 to go. Claire Johnson was the best for the Panthers with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
The win leaves the Eagles in second position, one game ahead of West, with a date at Mars against Norwood to follow. South continue to sit just one game outside the top five with three wins and five losses.
