After suffering a 1 point loss at the hands of the Sturt Sabres at home last weekend the Eagles women showed no mercy to the visiting Lions outfit when they comprehensively beat them, 102 – 50 at the Wayville Sports Centre on Saturday night.

The visiting Lions team were competitive in the early minutes of the first quarter, due mainly to the efforts of American Import Amber Land who finished the night with 11 points and 19 rebounds. Land was the only player for her team to finish in double figure points for the match. With five and half minutes of the first quarter remaining after a basket to Centrals Maryanne Eime, surprisingly, the Lions only trailed by 2 points, 9 – 11. It was during the next 5 minutes of play that the Eagles women showed their superiority and depth of scoring options when they piled on 17 unanswered points before Emma Fellows, who had just joined the game, broke the drought for the visitors by scoring. By the end of the quarter the Eagles had established a match winning lead when they led 30 -12.

Centrals Coach Winston Holland had no answers to restrict the fire power of the home team led by Jamie Bow, Mia Newley, and Jess Fergus. When the second quarter ended the Lions had fallen further behind with the Eagles adding 27 points to their first period score to enter the halftime break 38 points clear, 57 – 19. Jamie Bow for the Eagles finished the half with 20 points on perfect shooting of 8 from 8 from the field, including two three pointers and converted two foul shots from 2 shots taken. She went on to finish the match with a career high 32 points.

At least, after halftime the Lions were more competitive on the scoreboard. Although the Eagles went into the match under strength due to an injury to guard Kelsey Ireland they were never seriously challenged after the early minutes of the first quarter, and Eagles Coach Sharon Simons had the luxury of freely rotating her players on and off the bench. Jessica Mahony for the locals finished with a rare triple double of 12 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
