2018 FIJI SPORTS AWARDS

The Fiji Sports Awards Committee has confirmed the dates for the annual Fiji Sports Awards.

The dates of the Nominees Night is on the 22nd of February, 2019 and the Sports Awards Night will be on the 1st of March, 2019.

Nominations forms are attached and also available at the Fiji Sports Council and Fiji Olympic House, Bau St.

The following are details on the Selection Criteria that are also attached.  Please note nominations to be endorsed by the relevant National Federation.

 

NOMINATION GUIDELINES &

CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY & ASSESSMENT 

 The Fiji Sports Awards Committee comprising of representatives of the Fiji National Sports Commission, Fiji Sports Council and FASANOC invite Individuals, Clubs, Schools and National Federations to submit nominations for the 2018 Fiji Sports Awards.

Nomination Forms

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Fiji Sports Council website, http://www.fijisportscouncil.com.fj, the Fiji National Sports Commission website or as atached or collected from Fiji Sports Council or Fiji Olympic House, 17 Bau Street, Flagstaff, SUVA (phone 3303525).  

With the exception of the Sports Photograph, all nominations must be completed by a person, other than the nominee and MUST be endorsed by either the President or Secretary of the National Federation for verification of achievements. Please ensure that all sections are completed.  

ONLY 2018 achievements are to be included, specifying the date and name of the event, the number of participating clubs, districts, countries, competitors for each event and the results attained. Include official documentation of achievements to support the nomination and also provide additional information, which could include nominees leadership qualities, commitment, motivational, and development role. Any additional duties within their sport should also be recognized. Media coverage of the nominee should also be submitted. 

A person can be nominated for one award only. 

Any entry/nomination for an athlete or individual either suspended or expelled by his/her National Federation and/or charged for any criminal offence shall be disqualified. 

Passport photos of individual nominees or a group photo for the Sports Team MUST accompany entries or can be emailed to vaseva@fijisportscouncil.com.fj 

One nomination form per person per category - Photocopies accepted.

Judging

The judging will be based on assessing the achievements of each nominee for the 2018 calendar year both on and off the field and will be based on a ranking points system or format agreed to by the judging panel. The judges’ decision is final. 

Presentation of Awards : The 2018 Fiji Sports Awards will be held at the FMF Gym on Friday 1st MARCH, 2019.

A Nominees evening will be held the week before where all nominees will be presented with their nominee trophies

2018 FIJI SPORTS AWARDS

 Categories & Criteria for Eligibility and Assessment

 

  1. 2018 Fiji Sports Organization of the Year

Nominations may include clubs, commissions or sporting organizations.   During 2018 Nominee should have: 

    • Achieved excellent outcomes at Olympic or World events
    • Shown efficiency in administration
    • Hosted sports programmes and competitions
    • Had initiatives in youth development
    • Participated in national, regional and international competitions
    • Achievements and successes
    • Supported the development of players, coaches and volunteers within the organization
    • Promoted the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect.
       

2.          2018 Fiji Sports Volunteer of the Year

Nominations are open to volunteers, who by their participation, commitment and dedication have contributed significantly to the success of the organization in 2018.

2018 Fiji Sports Administrator of the Year

Nominations are open to all sports administrators and must detail achievements during 2018, including the significance of the achievements and the value of this to the organization and the sports community. Selection will be based on innovation, leadership, accreditation, commitment, professionalism and results achieved.   The nominee must have contributed significantly in the development of the organization’s administration capacity in 2018. 

Fiji Technical Official of the Year

Nominations are open to all technical officials and must detail achievements during 2018, including the significance of the achievements and the value of this to the organization and the sports community. Selection will be based on innovation, leadership, accreditation, commitment, professionalism and results achieved. 

    • Must have officiated in a significant number of games during the year
    • Demonstrated their commitment to develop the technical aspect of their sport at all levels (club, district, national, regional & international)
    • Demonstrated on-field competence and attitude
    • Participated in or conducted technical training sessions
    • Contributed to technical and professional development of the sport
       

5.          2018 Fiji Coach of the Year

Nominations are open to all national coaches and must detail achievements during 2018 including the significance of the achievements and the value of this to the organization and the sports community. Selection will be based on innovation, leadership, accreditation, commitment, professionalism and results achieved.  

    • Must be actively coaching
    • Must have made a significant impact on the performance of athletes at the highest level in the sport within the past 12 months
    • Always showed respect for officials, opponents and athletes
    • Clearly demonstrated and promoted the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and consistently presented a positive public image of coaching and the role of coach
    • Contributed towards the all around development of the athlete/team and the sport
       

6.          2018 Fiji Sports Photograph of the Year

Entry is open to all sports photographers and must be still photography only, with a 2018 sporting theme (details of the event must be included). Each photographer can enter three photos published in the year of the award and must be endorsed by his/her Editor in Chief/ Sports Editor or National Federation to verify entries. Entries will become the property of the organizers (photograph owners must sign their consent to this effect). The photograph must: 

  • Demonstrate creativity
    • Capture action
    • Portray unique features
    • Attract public appeal
       

7.         2018 Fiji Young Athlete of the Year Male and Female

Nominations are open to individuals both male and female aged 16 years or younger as at 31st December 2018, who have excelled and achieved outstanding results in 2018, either locally or abroad.   Nominees must have: 

    • Excelled at the highest level in the sport, in their age group, within the past 12 months
    • Always shown respect for officials, opponents for the rules of the Game
    • Clearly demonstrated and promoted the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and consistently presented a positive public image 

8.         2018 Fiji Sports Team of the Year

Nominations are open to Sport Teams which have excelled and achieved outstanding results at the highest level of the sport in 2018.  

9.         2018 Fiji Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year

Nominations are open to individuals both male and female who have excelled and achieved outstanding results in 2018. Nominees will have been a member of a team representing Fiji either nationally or internationally. During 2018 Nominees must have: 

    • Excelled at the highest performance level in the sport within the past 12 months
    • Always showed respect for officials, opponents and for the rules of the Game.
    • Clearly demonstrated and promoted the Olympic values of friendship, excellence and respect and consistently presented a positive public image.  

N.B      Any entry/nomination for an athlete or individual either suspended or expelled by his/her National Federation and/or charged for any criminal offence shall be disqualified.

             The 2018 Fiji Sports Awards will be held at the FMF Gym on Friday 1st March, 2019.
