Patrick Bower is CdM To Samoa 2019 Pacific Games

FASANOC is pleased to announce the appointment of Patrick Bower as the Chef de Mission to the 2019 Pacific Games to be held in Samoa in July 2019.

Mr Bower has been involved in the administration of Fiji Sports for many years and has already served in the Chef de Mission position for several Team Fiji outings.

He was the Chef de Mission of Team Fiji to the 2003 South Pacific Games in Suva and was also given the same role to the Pacific Mini Games Palau in 2005 and the Pacific Games in Samoa in 2007.

Mr Bower was also CdM for Team Fiji at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China and more recently the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, Australia.

In next year's Pacific Games an expected number of over 400 athletes and officials will be participating in a total of 26 sports in various venues around Samoa.

Team Fiji has advertised positions for General Managers, Section managers, Coaches, as well as for Medical Volunteers to assist in the preparation for Samoa.

The 2019 Pacific Games will also feature athletes from Australia and New Zealand who will be taking part in selected sports including athletics, beach volleyball, judo, rugby 7's, sailing, taekwondo and weightlifting. New Zealand will also feature in the sport of football.

Team Fiji Archery may also get a chance to qualify directly for the 2020 Olympics in the mixed team discipline.

Other sports that have an indirect chance of qualifying for the 2020 Olympics, through ranking points, include athletics, football, judo, sailing, swimming and taekwondo.

Rugby Sevens will be used as a qualifier for a spot at the World Rugby 7's Series tournament in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Having finished 4th on the overall medal tally at the last Pacific Games in 2015 in Port Moresby, Fiji will be looking to improve its performance at the Apia Pacific Games in 2019.
