Soaring Hawks no pushovers
The Manunda Hawks were treated like a speed bump when they met Cairns Saints in round two this year but their coach Paul Griffiths insists they will be more like a roadblock at Griffiths Park tomorrow. Since their 93-point annihilation, the Hawks have won five straight – and won them in style. They now sit level with Saints and Port Douglas on the top of the table and Griffiths said the squad held no fear of their rivals.
“That’s the difference (between round two and round nine); there is a real belief in our group and we aren’t scared of anyone,” he said. “It’ll be a totally different team that goes out there to play on Saturday than the one that lost to Saints this year.”
While the confidence levels are where they need to be, Griffiths was aware that there was much to do skills-wise if they want to retain the role of pacesetters this season.
“There’s a long way to go yet – you don’t win a championship in May,” he said.
