Hawks swoop on Port to make a meal of Crocs

The Manunda Hawks showed their travel legs were up to task when they hit the ground running and never looked back at Port Douglas to upset the Crocs by 60 points on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks booted four unanswered goals with the wind at their back in the first half and by three quarter time had 16 majors to the Crocs’ four. It could have been worse if not for a seven-goal final term to the Crocs. Ryan Booth (seven goals) and Mishai Perry (five) provided the impetus up front for Manunda, while Ben McCartney kicked three of the home side’s 11 goals. Winning coach Paul Griffiths said his team had headed north with confidence, but never expected to win in such devastating fashion. “It’s the toughest trip in the comp, no question,” he said. “But we used that short breeze well when we had it and when we kept them quiet in the second quarter with it at their backs we know we were a show,” he said. “We nailed them in the third and that got us home.”
