Hawks get mojo back
The Manunda Hawks reminded everyone in the AFL Cairns competition, not least of all themselves, what they were capable of by thumping Centrals Trinity Beach by 108 points at Crathern Oval on Saturday.
Hawks’ 21.20 (146) to 4.14 (38) victory was the perfect response to their disappointing showing against reigning premiers Cairns Saints last week and keeps alive their hopes of a top-two finish.
Hawks coach Paul Griffiths said his players were rewarded for sticking to their game plan.
"You need a bit of a crystal ball sometimes to know how players will react, but you give them instruction and you hope they’ll listen," he said.
"We had a great back six all day and they limited Centrals to only one goal, I think, in the second half.
"We had a lot of youth in the side and they listened to what you told them and it’s a pleasure to coach players like that."
Both teams took their time adjusting to the greasy conditions and went into quarter-time level, but once play restarted there was only one side in the contest.
