Chairman Stands Down from League
Elected Chairman John Walker has resigned from his role leading the Goldfields Football League.
Mr Walker was elected unopposed in 2018 and had an immediate impact on the League, its clubs and the direction of the League.
The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder CEO has earmarked that the close relationship between his City of Kalgoorlie Boulder role and that as League Chairman as a conflict. Below is a statement from Mr Walker this morning.
“It is with regret that I formally tender my resignation as Chairman of the Commission. For some time I have been concerned about the conflicts that exist with my role as Chairman and my role as CEO of the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder. This is particularly so when it comes to grounds and facilities, both current and future, but extends to tenancies, financial support, sponsorships and relationships
“Being the CEO of the City and a responsible one, is and must be my priority. I do not believe I have any choice but to resign immediately.”
I hope in the short time I have held the role I made some small difference. I wasn’t able in the time available however to achieve my primary goal and that was to ensure the Clubs and Commission understood they are all one body and what is good for one is good for the other.”
The GFL Commission wish to thank Mr Walker for his efforts in helping guide the League with future strategies, these include a strong representative program, Junior development, supporting women`s football and helping grow and improve facilities.
The absence of a Chairperson role will be filled by Vice Chair Glenn Wilson, with Brendon Simpson stepping to a Vice Chairman position.
