Tonga names World Cup Squad

Tuesday, 8 October 2013

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Mate Ma’a Tonga coaches Charles Tonga and Kristian Woolf have named their 24 man Squad for the up and coming Rugby League World Cup in England and Wales.

With a sublime mix of rising young talent like Samisoni Langi and NRL U20’s Holden cup winning captain, Daniel Foster, teamed up with the likes of established experienced players Brent Kite, Sika

Manu, Fuifui Moimoi and Willie Manu, and you can see why there is a special buzz and excitement in the air about the Mate Ma’a Tonga Team.

Add in members of the NRL grand final teams, including highflying young winger Daniel Tupou from the Premiership winning team the Sydney Roosters, who is another exciting young man who can’t wait to put on the red and white, and you have a team loaded with potential.

Tupou is one of the 5 new faces to the squad, with many players from this year’s successful test-match side that defeated Samoa, being recalled, including experienced Manly forward Brent Kite as Captain.

There are 3 other players, Paea, W.Manu and Vave, who have previous experience playing for the red and white, with Manu and Paea the only players from the last World Cup Squad in 2008.

Despite losing many talented players to injury and other countries, “we are fortunate to have many young guys willing to represent the Nation”  Coach Charles Tonga, who is eager to get his team to England on the pitch said.

“We are doing this for our people, to give back to our Country”.
