Wrap-up from Jason Ring:

First of all I would like to say thanks to everyone who helped me during the tournament preparations. Glenda, Gavin and Kate, the help you guys gave me was nothing short of awesome so from me and the girls a huge thank you.

As a team our goal was to make the top eight in this year's tournament.  We had a young team with only three returning players, having played at a national tournament.  We started out very well against Mid-South Canterbury, who in the past has always been a tough match up for us.  To come away with the win was a great start.

The second game of the day was the big test for this group in Waitakere.  The girls played very hard with foul trouble an issue early, but the group stayed together and we were still in it at half time. The second half was a tough contest with the visitors running away in the fourth quarter with the win.

Day two started out against Hibiscus Coast.  This was a must win game for us to finish top two in our pool. The girls came out focused and in a hard fought game we came away with the win and second place in pool play! So top eight achieved and crossovers to come.

Day three began and crossovers headed us with Tauranga who hadn't lost a game to date.  The game started off with lots of fouls being called against both teams and the game close at every quarter. Tauranga finished the game well edging us out to take the win and a top four spot.  We had to regroup and looked forward to playing against traditional rivals Canterbury.  The rain came during the break and with Gavin on the towel getting the water droppings off the courts, we managed to get the better of them on this occasion.

With this win we would have played Taranaki for 5th and 6th but due to the weather we were not able to play….. Thanks to basketball Otago for the great tournament.  It was just unlucky we couldn't get the last rounds completed.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the families and the girls for the effort and commitment they gave me this season, we did achieve our goal so for that you all should be very proud! It was also great to see everyone improving, remember to stick with it and keep on working your game.
