Netball NZ - Weekly Update 12/2/16

Greetings everyone,

‘Development' has been the word of the week here at Netball New Zealand with the annual Community Netball Development Forum being held in West Auckland.

55 dedicated Netball development staff were present from as far north as KeriKeri and as far south as Invercargill, with each of the five Zones represented.

I had the pleasure of opening the three-day forum and I must say the positive energy and sense of commitment and passion in the room was contagious and I admit to feeling very humbled and proud to be amongst this dedicated group who work hard to develop and deliver Netball throughout New Zealand.

The Netball New Zealand Community team did a great job to bring the programme to life - this included professional development opportunities, the new INF rules updates and the NetballSmart Neuromuscular warm-up.

In a bid to grow excellence in the Netball coaching community, a strong focus of the forum was around the awareness and development of self. A diverse range of speakers added to the programme, delivering on a range of topics including:

  • Understanding personality types and individual differences
  • Working with a fixed vs growth mind-set
  • Creating relationships between umpires and coaches
  • Development, Foundation and Umpire modules
  • Writing for the web and social media best practices
  • NetballSmart
  • High Performance Player Profiles
  • ANZ futureFERNS

There is definitely an air of anticipation in Netball across the country at present. Preparations are in full swing for the start of the season, Zone AGM’s, the NNZ AGM and Council Meeting, and we also celebrated 50 days to go until the start of the ANZ Championship this week.

Wishing you all a relaxing weekend, long may summer last.

Kind regards,

Hilary Poole
Chief Executive
