Junior Reps Round 1 Preview

VICTORIA STEPS INTO THE CHOOK PEN
Round 1 of the Mal Meninga and Cyril Connell Cups

By Savannah Tafau-Levy

The Victorian Junior Representative sides are in the midst of their first collision for The Mal
Meninga and Cyril Connell Cups in Queensland this Sunday.

Victoria’s very own Under 16 and 18 squads will face Wynnum Manly Seagulls in Round 1 as the
Curtain Raisers for their Intrust Super Cup team against Burleigh Bears.

Victoria’s pool consists of two other Queensland clubs; Redcliffe Dolphins and North Devils.

NRL Victoria Pathways and Coaching Manager Ryan Walker said, “Both teams have been
preparing well. It has been a long pre-season for the players and they are ready to get out on the
field and play some footy”.

2016 will be the second year where Victoria has played in this tournament which will generate
further opportunities for the growth of Junior Rugby League in Victoria.

QRL Competitions Manager Dave Maiden said, it was pleasing to see Victoria return for a second
season and that their inclusion is very important for QRL’s Junior development.

16’s Head Coach Ash Lanfranchi and 18’s Head Coach Janan Billings are confident in their
selected playing squads.

The coaches have also named Tevita Ofahengaue from Altona Roosters as 16’s Captain and Tiui
Misi from North West Wolves as 18’s Captain.

Good luck to our Victorian Junior Representatives.
