Round 2

League Women – Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets

Tracy Village beat the Uni Rebels 57-35 for their second win of the season. The predominantly youthful Rebels were no match for the much more experienced Jets. The Bombers stamped their authority on the game early with a first quarter 23-10 run that became a 36-22 half time lead that the Bombers never relinquished. Tania Dhu dropped in a game and team high 25 for the winners with new recruit Delsey Ah Wang picking up 10. Edith Boundry, Amber Kowcun and Jadeen Chisholm all finished up with 6 for the Rebels.

Razzle v Eagles

The Eagles flew rings around the Razzle on their way to a 52-35 second round win. The Eagles mother daughter combinations of Trish Graham/Michelle Friel & Lillian Williams/Alysha-Marie Williams was too much to handle on the night. Friel led the Eagles with 17, Graham had 12, Alysha-Marie had 11 and Lillian had 10. The first quarter was a 17-4 blow-out and that blossomed into a game winning 29-9 half time lead. Credit to the green and gold however because after half time they actually won the second half 24-23! Erin Boyd led the Razzle with 17 points, 14 of them in the second half revival.

Lightning v Ansett

On Thursday night Ansett knocked off the Lightning 69-54 with Elizabeth Paice dominating the scoring for the Blues. Paice lit up the scoreboard for a team and game high 28, the highest individual total for the season so far and her highest tally of her League career to date. Bella Politis added 14 in support. For the lightning, who actually led after the first quarter 18-16, Kira Pendlebury hit 18 and Yasmin Decurtis had 12. The Blues wrestled back the lead by half time to take a 38-26 advantage into the second half. Lightning lifted in the second half, but never mounted a serious challenge against the Blues.

Next Week Round 3:                                     Thursday: Razzle v Tracy Village Jets 6:15pm. Friday: Uni Rebels v Ansett 6:15pm & Eagles v Lightning 7:45pm

League Men – Lightning v Eagles

Lightning downed the Eagles 72-67 in a close encounter that left the Lightning undefeated so far this season. The Eagles grabbed a 24-21 first quarter lead, but the Lightning clamped down on defense in the second quarter, holding the Birds to just 9 while scoring 16 for a 37-33 lead. The four point buffer Lightning held was enough to get them across the line at the end as the Eagles failed to put up enough points to overhaul them during the second half. Cameron Bailey hit a season high 18 with Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson tallying 15 and Thomas Godwin 14. The Eagles Reece Turner hit 22, Chris Hart 18 and Jesse Williams-Hook added 11.

Uni Rebels v Razzle

The Uni Rebels outclassed the Razzle with a 78-58 thrashing of the green and gold thanks to a season high 38 points from Tim Morris. Morris was neigh on unstoppable in the paint as he nailed 16 first half points to lead the Rebels to a commanding 36-19 half time advantage. Morris had help from former Palmerston player Brad Jachmann who put up 15. David Carroll got the hot hand for the Razzle in the second half, hitting 15 of his team high 18, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Razzle back into the game. Rob Oliver added 12.

Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

Ansett got into the win column with a hard fought 66-55 win over the Tracy Village Jets on Thursday night. The Blues led from start to finish with the Bombers scrambling to just stay in touch. Jake Feeney hit his straps with a 27 point explosion for the Blues to lead all scorers while Matteo Rowse added 16. The Blues only had a 6 point lead at half time 30-24, but the Bombers just couldn’t swing the momentum their way at any stage to close the gap. Even a barrage of three pointers in the last quarter didn’t have any effect on the result. Darrin Weetra hit 20 for the Bombers with Henry Callander right behind him on 19.
