The grand final of the NBV Boys Under 15 School Cricket Competition took place on Wednesday 7th of November which saw two of the best Under 15 competitive schools, Kawenu and PVIS compete in the finals.
Kawenu Primary School defeated PVIS in an entertaining match at Kazaa field to clinch their championship, with 7 wickets and 4 balls remaining.
Kawenu School Captain Emil won the toss and sends his team to field. PVIS were out of luck when Kawenu bowlers took the four top batsman of PVIS after the 7th over with only 38 runs. However, PVIS batsman Brennan and Adam stood their grounds to help PVIS to 6/52 after the 12 over.
Good bowling performances were from Kawenu’s Andrew Tom with 2 for 10 runs for 3 overs.
In the second innings, Kawenu needed 53 runs to win. PVIS captain Kye Healy opened the bowling attack with tremendous fast pace keeping a low batting rate for Kawenu for the first 3 overs. Followed by impressive leg spin bowling by Chris Haines who took 4/6 for 3 overs which made the game on their side. But, Kawenu’s opening batsman Andrew Tom was never to be underestimated when he helped his team chase down the score hitting the winning run in the last over.
Andrew’s impressive batting and bowling display made him the player of the match with his batting 24 runs of 26 balls not out and took 2/10 of 3 overs.
The Vanuatu Cricket Association wishes to acknowledge the teachers and students for their contribution in developing the sport and also to the major sponsor, National Bank of Vanuatu for their continuous support with the development of cricket in the country.
