THEY may be veterans but they still have what it takes to be the victors. The Veterans team has taken the Raiwaqa Basketball Association (RBA) Super League men's competition by storm after recording their second consecutive win in the competition at the Ed's court yesterday.

The 'oldies' were seen toying around with the youngsters in the competition using their superior experience and skills to remain the top bet for the title. Yesterday the side defeated newcomers Westy Stripes 91 52-22 to remain undefeated following its win over USP 43-37 in the opening round last week. Veterans player and RBA committee member Peniasi Kainamoli said the team was made up of former national reps that were in their 40s.

Some other well-known players in the team include Nua Kunau, Mesulame Rasova and Sowane Tamani. He said the side was one of the favourites along with defending champions Boston White and Boston Red. Boston White is a development side with top newcomers while Boston Red is led by former Fiji rep Eroni Cinavilakeba and Malakai Ravai.

In the ladies competition, Dynamic Redz led by sisters Tiana and Donnis Kainamoli, Grace Taito's Chosen and Sparks remain undefeated. Peniasi said the competition level was gaining momentum and the interest among the people of Raiwaqa was also rising.

He said the Super League was their build-up for the prestigious Easter Championship where they were planning to field six men's and nine women's teams.
