Sisters continue family tradition

Sisters continue family tradition

Donnis Kainamoli and younger sister, Tiyana Kainamoli hope to continue carrying the basketball flag in the family.
The two Tailevu lasses hope to continue with the tradition just like their father, Peniasi Kainamoli who was once a national basketball rep.
Elder sister Donnis said they want to be like their father and follow his footsteps.
“Our dad was a very good basketball player. He represented Fiji in the sport and did well and now this is our chance to continue with the tradition,
“As they say ‘Like father like daughters’, we want to accomplish that mission,” Donnis said.
The duo played netball since primary school but switched to basketball recently with high hopes of donning national jumpers.
“We knew our dad will assist us to try and achieve our targets and switching from netball to basketball was easy for us because he was there to advise us,
“We love playing basketball and we will continue playing the sport,” Donnis added.
17-year old Donnis is a fifth former student and 14-year old Tiyana is a fourth former both at Saint Joseph’s Secondary School.
Donnis will make her international debut at the World Youth Championships on November 26 while Tiyana will be out for her second international appearance.
“Dad always tells us ‘The sky is the limit’ and ‘Always take one day at a time’. These will be some of the words that will boost our performance in Australia,” she said.
The Fiji Under-19 men’s and women’s team will be flying out for the Oceania Youth Championships in Australia, tomorrow.
