2018 Micro Games Basketball in Full Swing

The Micro Games, which is recognized as the most prestigious basketball competition in the Micronesian region, has begun. The quadrennial spectacle will run from July 15-27 in Yap, FSM.

Defending Gold medalists from Guam have been running the table in the first two days of the tournament with the Men's (77-61 win over Palau and a 72-47 win over Kosrae) and Women's (77-41 win over Palau and a 101-17 win over Chuuk) sitting atop the standings in their respective divisions.

"The level of competition has improved and we can also see better coaching from other countries. What’s surprised me is that all the teams are playing man-to-man when we expected them to play zone. We have had to adjust because we prepared against teams playing zone but we have played a few games now," said Guam Men’s head coach Danny Payumo.

The vastly-improved Pohnpei national team also got off to a strong start with an impressive 75-66 win over CNMI. The team from Senyavin Islands has a good chance to fulfill their goal if they continue their stellar play.

"The competition as a whole has been great and it’s been very competitive and everyone seems to be enjoying the atmosphere," shared Pohnpei men’s coach Benji Peterson.
