Guam dominate MicroGames Basketball event

YAP -- Guam's Men and Women's basketball teams took home the gold medals in the 2018 Micronesian Games in dominant fashion with a 62-38 and 86-72 win in their respective divisions at the Yap Sports Complex Main Gym yesterday.
Guam defended their 2014 crowns and have qualified for the 2019 Pacific Games with their stellar performance in the quadrennial event.

Day 9, Game 3 Palau vs Phonpei (Women's) Bronze Medal Match

The third game for the 9th day of micro games was the women's PNI team fighting for the Bronze Medal against team Palau. The first period has started with both teams tied for most of it. Palau took control of the ball, working as a team to move across the court and they made a layup.

Day 9, Game 2 Kosrae vs Chuuk 5v6 (Men's)

The second game of the 9th day of micro games was Kosrae playing against Chuuk(men’s). During the first period Chuuk was winning 16-9. The second period started with a three-point shot from Kosrae.

Day 9, Game 1 CNMI vs Yap (7vs8) (Men's)

Final Result: CNMI 88 def Yap 64
After 8 days of competition, the competition medal winners will be known today after the classification matches of 5-8. In the first match of the day CNMI played Yap and CNMI got off to a good start leading after the first period 19-14. Solid scoring from the Chuuk team saw them increase the margin to 15 points at half time. (48-33).

YAP -- The Semifinals cast of the Micro Games 2018 is set with Guam, Palau, Pohnpei and the Marshall Islands qualifying both their men's and women's teams in the region's most prestigious basketball competition being held in Yap, Micronesia.
In the Men's Quarterfinal round results; Guam eliminated Chuuk 95-56, Pohnpei eliminated Kosrae 84-77, Palau eliminated Yap, 89-70 and RMI eliminated CNMI...

Day 6, Game 4 - Pohnpei vs. Kosrae (Men's)

Pohnpei def Kosrae 84-77
The second last game of the day was a matchup between Pohnpei and Kosrae (Men’s). A Close game from the get-go, with both teams playing quite well all throughout, though it was Pohnpei who pulled away with a half time lead of 8 points (34-26). Kosrae fought harder in the last half, but were unable to best Pohnpei, losing 84-77.

Game 3 was Guam vs. Chuuk (Men's). Continuing their form, Guam played well in the first half, and despites Chuuk performance, had accrued a 14 point lead. Though Guam really pulled away in the third quarter, where they scored 49 points, greatly extending their lead on Chuuk. At full time, Guam had won by 39 points (95-56)

Day 6, Game 2 - CNMI vs. Yap (Women's)

The second game of basketball on day 6 of the 2018 Micro Games was CNMI vs. Yap (Women’s). The first half was close, with both teams playing well, there was only 8 points difference, and CNMI had the lead. Though Yap fought in the second half, they were unable to close the gap, and CNMI won 69-44.

The third game of basketball for the day was the 1:00pm match between RMI and Palau (Women’s). Going into the game, it was always going to be close. This was made obvious by half time, with the teams tied on 27-27. Right down to the fourth quarter, there was nothing in it, though it was RMI who managed to pull away from Palau, only just winning by 4 points (63-59)

The second game on Day 8 of 2018 MicroGames was Kosrae against RMI (Men’s). First period ended with points 17- and Kosrae-16. Second period starts with Marianas having the first shot. By 3:52 Kosrae has taken the lead by 30 points to 28 by 3:22. Beginning of third period, Kosrae is still winning with 47 to 43. The third period ended with Kosrae-55 and Marianas-54...

The first game on day 8, was team Chuuk against team Yap (Men’s). At the beginning of the first quarter Chuuk was winning. Its still early in the morning so there wasn’t that many spectators to cheer the game but a few girls in team Chuuk.

Last Game, Men's Quarter Final 4 - CNMI vs. RMI

The last game of basketball on day 6 of the Micro Games was the 4th Men’s quarter final between CNMI and RMI. It was bound to be a tight game due to its significance, and that was obvious come half time, with RMI leading by only 7 points. CNMI came out determined in the third quarter, managing to close RMI’s lead by 4 points, with the scores 63-66.

Going into the match, Palau looked like the favorites, and this was evident from the half time scores, with Palau leading by 21 points (39-18). And despite Yap's best efforts in the second half, they were not able to close Palau's substantial lead, losing out 74-28.

The first game of basketball on Day 5 of the 2018 Micro Games, took place before the women's semifinals began. It was CNMI vs Kiribati (Men's). An important game for both teams, CNMI got off to the ideal start, having a 12 point lead at half time. Kiribati toiled in the last half, but unfortunately they were not able to close CNMI's lead, losing by 13 points (82-69).

The last game of basketball on Day 4 of the 2018 Micro Games saw RMI play Kosrae (Men's). As it was end of the day, the stadium was full of spectators. By half time, they saw RMI build up a lead of 22 points (42-20).

The fourth installment of basketball for the day was Guam vs. CNMI (Men's). As has been the story so far, neither the Guam men's or women's teams have lost a game of basketball so far. And it was evident why with Guam's performance in the first half, having a lead of 28 points (58-30). Unable to close Guam's lead, CNMI lost by 40 points (106-44).

Game 3 of basketball was a match-up between these two teams: RMI and Yap (Women’s). In the first quarter, RMI started wonderfully with a lead of 19 points (21-2). By halftime, RMI went on still taking the lead and finished 23 points ahead (38-15).

The second basketball game of the day was Pohnpei vs Kiribati (Men's). Pohnpei had a strong first half, leading by 22 points (47-25). Though Kiribati was determined, and fought back in the third and fourth. Unfortunately for Kiribati, despite their efforts, they were not able to close Pohnpei’s lead, losing 87-74.

The first basketball game of Day 4 at the 2018 Micro Games was a match-up between Pohnpei and Palau. It was extremely close all throughout the first half, with Palau only leading by 3 points going into the third quarter. Pohnpei was unable to close this gap, extending only to an 8 point win for Palau. A very close game.

The last game of basketball on Day 3 of the 2018 Micro Games saw Yap pitted against Kosrae (Men’s). A fitting game to close out the day, going down to the very last second. By halftime, Yap had a 6 point lead on Kosrae. In the last half, Yap only just managed to maintain that lead, winning by only 4 points (68-64)

On the other hand, Chuuk has been unable to play their best basketball so far, and were looking to strike some good form. Unfortunately for Chuuk, that was not today, losing to RMI 79-44.
