2017 Swisse VFL Women's Fixture

The 2017 fixture has now been released for AFL Victoria’s Swisse VFL Women’s competition.

In its second year, the competition will start on the weekend of May 6 and 7 featuring 10 teams across a 14 round season.

The later start will provide a break between the end of the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s league and start of VFL Women’s – with 93 players drafted to the eight AFL clubs.

The opening round will feature 2016’s top four VFL Women’s teams going head-to-head, with the Grand Final rematch between Darebin and Melbourne Uni a highlight.

In two major changes for the 2017 competition, Geelong Cats and Box Hill Hawks will join, taking over the VFL Women’s licenses of North Geelong Magpies and Knox Falcons respectively. The two new teams will meet in Round 1 in a VFL double-header at Simonds Stadium.

The season will feature two byes during the home and away season, the first after Round 5 across the Queen’s Birthday weekend on June 10/11 and the second following Round 10 on July 22/23.

Finals will begin on the weekend of August 26/27 with two Semi Finals, followed by a weekend off on September 2/3. The Preliminary Final will follow on September 9 or 10 before the Grand Final on the weekend of September 16/17.
