TSASA Cruising Events from the Cruising Captain Roy Martin coming soon
If you are interested in participating in a cruise you must complete a standard Cruise Entry Form and forward it to the designated Event Leader or organiser. Hard copy forms can be provided by the Event Leader if required.
Note all dates are 'on the water dates', that is, they are the launch and retrieval dates and do not include road travelling time unless otherwise specified.
The committee have tried to have some new destinations both in and out of SA school holidays and wish to remind members that quite often other members will be in the cruise location both before and after the set cruise dates if one has to come early or late to at least join part of the cruise.
9 - 11th June Long Weekend Cruise on the River Murray - Pentaque and Cooking competitions. Beginning at Mannum. Leader Ken May - contact 0405 192 882 or email@example.com
Major 2018 cruise
For 2018 our major cruise destination is the Murray River near the Victorian border and another site still to be decided. Altogether we will be on the Murray for a month which is something the TSASA hasn’t done for a while. We have done a lot of eastern Australian coast trips in recent years and this will give members with less holidays and travel time to join us.
NOTE SA school holidays are 29th Sept to 14th Oct
River Murray trip No 1
15th to 29th September 2018 touring the Murray River near Victorian border (to join on to the later Lindsay River cruise). We will use buses etc to drop off and return to boats if necessary. Leader Ken May 0405 192 882 or firstname.lastname@example.org Assistant leader to be advised.
River Murray trip No 2
30th September to 12th October 2018 (in the SA school holidays)
TSASA members have an exciting opportunity to explore the Lindsay River just inside the Victorian border where it enters the Murray at the 655 km mark, adjacent to the famous Higgins cutting. This cutting was made by a local cattle station owner, Jack Higgins who used explosives to create a tight bend shortcut at Reedy Island. It is well worth exploring this area and with luck we will be able to visit the Higgins Homestead.
Trip leader, Brian Barwick has already recently taken “Osprey” with Helen Smith to explore Lindsay Creek which has not been part of a TSA expedition so far. It promises to be an exciting cruise where we can explore aboriginal sites /old farmer’s cattle ferries / a boat wreck /some secret islands /plus wonderful wildlife exploration on foot and by canoe or zodiac up the Malaroo creek. Malaroo Creek is approximately 25 km long and runs eastwards off the Lindsay Creek about 15 km upstream from Higgins cutting on the Murray. Brian has visited Lindsay creek twice now and is keen to show TSA members this historical, quiet, deep backwater which has two boat ramps suitable for trailerable yachts, which could be handy for those not sticking to the trip start and finish dates(more details coming).
Brian‘s trip could be commenced at Customs House on the South Australian border (more details coming) or the 637 km mark where there is secure parking fuel etc . Renmark, about 25 Km away, offers all normal shopping facilities . Customs House is possibly also a suitable entry and exiting point for the earlier Murray trip run by Ken May.
