ADULT LEARN TO SAIL PROGRAMS

 

 

Adult Learn to sail programs will commence on Sunday 11th February 2018  for 6 weeks.

Currently, we are offering: 

  Adult learn to Sail 1 - STARTS Sunday 11th February 2018 on the beach at 08:30 to 10:30 am

Your Discover sailing journey starts here as you learn the fundamental skills of sailing and are introduced to the fun of dinghy sailing in a safe and supportive environment.

This course is for beginners and will introduce you to basic boat handling skills. Be prepared to get wet, have fun and make new friends.

Adult Learn to Sail 2 - STARTS Sunday 11th February 2018 on the beach at 08:30am to 10:30

Your Discover sailing journey continues as you master all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery.

This course is for those that have completed sailing 1, have sailed before but a while ago who can steer a boat safely, or who simply want to have more time on the water to grow their confidence (even if they have already completed sailing 2 a while ago)

Sailing is all about time on the water, so it is fine to repeat a program and get that time on water experience and tuition.

Adult Learn to RACE 1 - STARTS Sunday 11th February 11:00 to 13:00

Your Discover sailing journey continues as you master all of the fundamental dinghy sailing skills. You are now equipped to sail your dinghy on your own voyages of discovery.

This course is for those that have completed sailing 1, 2 and Better sailing and are sailing regularly or have even started to race.  We will be looking at boat speed, and the thrill of sailing fast. Introducing the rules of Racing, refining boat handling skills and seamanship skills. If you now have your own boat, then it would be recomended to use it and learn how to get the best out of it.

Sailing is all about time on the water, so it is fine to repeat a program and get that time on the water experience and tuition. There is no hurry, sailing is for life!

The course is conducted in our fleet of training boats and include:

  • Safety
  • Rigging and care of the boat
  • How to launch and return to the beach
  • Coming alongside
  • Towing, rescue techniques
  • Tacking and Gybing
  • Boat handling in strong winds
  • Capsize drill
  • Sailing around a course
  • Sailing theory including right of way, rules
  • How to tie knots
  • Tides and Weather
  • First steps to racing
  • most of all….. FUN!

Please come prepared to get wet. Wear clothing that you can swim in, light and quick drying. NO JEANS

You will need a HAT, SUNCREAM, SUNGLASSES, WATER, LONG SLEEVE RASH VEST, TOWEL, CHANGE OF CLOTHES, FOOTWEAR (covered toes).

Winter sailing please consider a wetsuit and a waterproof top to keep you warm, gloves are also good to consider in your kit.

We recommend that where possible you tie on your items too. (Glasses with string, hats with chin straps or clips). We recommend not to wear any jewelry. Please leave all valuables at home as we can not take responsibility for damage or loss of items.
