New Caledonia will no doubt be a contender in front of their enthusiastic home fans and will be out to claim their first ever Baseball gold medal.  Palau is the defending champions from the 2007 South Pacific Games in Apia, which makes their pedigree difficult to overlook.

However, the hot favourite will be Guam, who were absent from the 2007 Games, but who first claimed victory at home in 1999, then again in the Suva 2003 Games and finally winning their third successive gold medal at the Palau 2005 Pacific Mini Games.  But that was six years ago and a new generation of Guam Baseballers will no doubt be very keen to taste success.

The Baseball Confederation of Oceania (BCO), through its parent body, the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) has Ray Brown to be the official Technical Delegate to ensure the competition is conducted according to IBAF rules.  Ray is currently serving as the BCO’s Development Officer in Oceania, so brings abundant knowledge and experience to this important role.

Baseball is scheduled from 29 August – 9 September and will take place in Mont Dore, one of the regional centres in the greater Noumea area.

The Pacific Games Council wishes all of the Baseball teams the very best of luck.
