Join a Junior Team
Willetton Basketball Association currently has over 400 teams participating in our Junior and Senior competitions.
All sporting clubs and associations require volunteers for coaching, managing or even just general organisation regardless of backround or familiarity. Parents and volunteers giving their time to our sporting comunity is what make it great and with all roles involved please contact your clubs or us about what's expected and how we can help you.
An important letter from our Club President:
Willetton Basketball is part of the way in getting more courts built (our expansion project) to accommodate more players. This process has been formally underway since 2009, but goes back to 2003.
The City of Canning, which owns our building, is fully supportive of the project, and funds have been committed from the Federal Government, and we await the State Government funding announcement in February 2018.
You can help our campaign for the expansion by registering your frustrations with inadequate court space in our current stadium by dropping a brief note to the following –
- Contact our local State Member, Mike Nahan (using the contact form on his website: http://www.wa.liberal.org.au/state/mikenahan), as well as any other state representatives (Labour, Greens, for example)
- Contact our local Federal Member, Ben Morton (http://www.benmorton.net.au/contact-ben/) to say thanks for securing Federal support
- You could encourage City of Canning to maintain their support by dropping them a short message of appreciation to their general email address of - firstname.lastname@example.org
Your support along the above lines will go a long way to helping our political representatives stay focussed on the absolute need for more courts at our stadium to accommodate more players.
Chairman of the Board
Willetton Basketball Association Inc
Our Junior domestic competitions run from Under 8s through to Under 18s for males and females. There are 7 clubs. Most competitions are played on SATURDAYS (fixtures here) during school terms, although there are also competitions on weekday evenings for older age groups. Summer season runs Term 4 and term 1; Winter season is Terms 2 &3. Your domestic team will NOT be the Willetton Tigers. Tigers are our representative basketball team (please see here for more information), and you must play domestic to try out for the Tigers.
We never like telling people it is difficult to join a team, but in some age groups waiting times can be lengthy. Our clubs can only enter their maximum number of teams into the competition as we have limited space available and most boys' teams have high numbers. See the attached document for more details regarding this.
An important note about Kidsport:DO NOT apply for Kidsport for Willetton Basketball / Willetton Tigers. WAIT until you have joined a club, and then register for Kidsport with that club.
Domestic junior competition waitlist
Join the waiting list here. Please be VERY SURE that your child wants to play before joining the list; it is demoralising for our club volunteers to ring (numerous) children on the waiting list who are unavailable to play on designated game days or have "changed their mind". The game days and times for each age group are on our fixtures.
Juniors Sunday Social Mixed Basketball
This is a Sunday morning competition run over the term 4 and term 1 2017/18 on a Sunday. The competition is mixed and includes training prior to the game. This competition is to assist helping those from the wait list and those trying to join a team at Willetton and cannot get into the domestic competition. All games will be played at Striker Leeming (Farrington Road), not Willetton.
To see what age group your child is eligible for and if they are old enough to join a team, please go to the age group table through this LINK
