Explanation of Role
PREAMBLE
The role of Class Captain and Vice Captain is fundamental to the development and conduct of sailing at our club.
Their key focus is to foster a positive environment of enjoyment, friendship & fairness for all sailing families at our Club.
CLASS CAPTAIN
Primary Duty
- Act as a communication conduit between sailors of his/her class and the Sailing Coordinator and Sailing Manager.
Secondary Duties
- Assist with the promotion of the club and the classes sailed at the club, specifically his/her class.
- Act as a point of contact for new sailors wishing to join the class.
- Act as a conduit to assist skippers find crews and vice versa (when requested).
- Act as a point of contact for people wishing to purchase a boat in his/her class.
- Provide dates and details of class association regattas and events relating to his/her class.
- Take a leading role in the organisation of class State and/or National Championships hosted at the Club.
- Provide feedback to the Sailing Manager and Sailing Coordinator on sailing related matters including, but not limited to, class coaching, winter training, the club racing program and racing conduct.
- Assist with the organisation of the Christmas & End-of-Season BBQ’s. Coordinate social activities & games.
- Assist the Sailing Coordinator with the organisation and preparation of final results & trophies for the Annual Presentation of Trophies.
- Attend Class Captain Meetings from time to time.
- Attend Sailing Sub-Committee meetings from time to time.
- Promote and recruit volunteers to assist with the race management (start boat & support boat crews, radio room, shore marshall etc).
- Assist with taking Sailing Memberships, Boat Registrations and Volunteer Registrations at the start of the season.
- Contribute (text and photographs) to the “Latest News” on the club’s website, to the sailing FaceBook page and Team App.
CLASS VICE CAPTAIN
- Support the Class Captain in his/her duties.
- Assume the role of Class Captain in the absence of, or due to the resignation of, the Class Captain.
- Assist with taking Sailing Memberships, Boat Registrations and Volunteer Registrations at the start of the season.
- Assist the Sailing Coordinator with the organisation and preparation of final results & trophies for the Annual Presentation of Trophies.
- Organise for the return of perpetual trophies for the Annual Presentation (refer to the club’s “Perpetual Trophy Register”).
- Attend Class Captains Meetings from time to time.
- Attend Sailing Sub-Committee meetings from time to time.
TERM OF OFFICE
- The Class Captain and Vice Captain change over date shall be the date of their class Annual Presentation of Trophies.
- It is anticipated that the incoming and outgoing Class Captains and Vice Captains will work together in the preparation and organisation of the Annual Presentation.
