ELIZABETH Re, the daughter of former Soccer Federation of WA president Julius Re, has been recruited as a Committee member of the Football Hall of Fame WA.
She replaces former State team women's coach George Papaliaris, who has resigned because of work commitments.
Hall of Fame Committee chairman Louis Prospero thanked George for his invaluable efforts over the past few years - and welcomed Elizabeth Re to the Committee.
"Elizabeth brings a great in-depth knowledge of the workings of football to the Committee, plus a wonderful slice of the history of the game in Western Australia and a continuation of a family link with the Hall of Fame," said Prospero.
"Her father Julius was one of the original Committee members when the Football Hall of Fame WA was established in 1996. Julius is also a Hall of Fame inductee, being given entry into the Hall of Recognition in the initial intake.
"Elizabeth is a valued member of the WA community through her tireless work as a Stirling City Councillor, her involvement with the RAC as a Council member and she has been very vocal in her support of the rights of women and families through various committees.
"Football has been a huge part of her life since she was a child, and she continues to play a big part in the game in WA through her role as Patron of the Stirling Panthers women's team."
Elizabeth Re, who has a Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree and a Graduate Diploma of Education, was the first female to be appointed as a Principal Health and Building Surveyor in Local Government in Western Australia, and the first female to be appointed as a Health Officer in State Government in Western Australia and in Australia.
Since 2005 she has been a Board Member of the City of Stirling (as a Councillor), and was the seventh female Councillor elected onto the City of Stirling in its 132 year history.  She was also on the executive committee of the National Council of Women (WA) and has received a number of recognitions for her community service, including the Stirling Youth Appreciation Certificate in 2007, and the Neighbourhood Watch Gold Award recipient in 2006.
She has been a nominee for Australian of the Year, Western Australian Citizen of the Year, and the Australian Telstra Business Woman of the Year.
She has started many groups for women and families over the years from the Ninitirri Centre in country WA to the State Health Department’s "Women’s Interest Network".  In 2010, she was named as one of the Australian National Ambassadors for the Year of Women in Local Government.
She has been involved in playing (and coaching) many sports, including netball, basketball, squash and athletics, both in rural and urban areas.
"I never played football as Dad wouldn't let us," she says. "Anyway, the local clubs didn't have female teams in my early years, but I was involved with the Azzurri club's Marching Girls, which was great fun.
"When we weren't marching we were cutting up lettuce for the sandwiches which were provided for the players after the games. There was a wonderful family involvement at all levels in those days.
"Our family was steeped in the game because of Dad's involvement and we mixed with many big stars. Dad was very friendly with Bobby Charlton, who slept in our house when Manchester United came to Perth. I've been a Manchester United fan ever since."
She added: "I am thrilled and honoured to be a member of the Committee of the Football Hall of Fame WA, which does such important work to preserve the history of the game in this State."
Elizabeth will represent the Football Hall of Fame WA when she travels to Russia for the World Cup finals, starting in Moscow on June 14.
"It will be my first World Cup finals and I am really looking forward to it," she said.
The other members of the Football Hall of Fame WA Committee are: Louis Prospero (chairman), Roger Males (treasurer), John O'Connell, Richard Kreider, Keith Brier, Mel Moffat. The Patron is Julian Burt.
