Meet the Staff!

 Regional Manager: Dean Motteram

Bio: 

Dean comes on board after a successful career as a draftsman and project manager in the aviation refuelling industry.

He is a well rounded racing sailor competing in Tornado cats, S80s and club match racing within WA. He has also attained his ICC and along with his wife Fiona chartered a bareboat yacht and sailed the Greek Isles. Most recently Dean has been involved in coaching the Royal Perth Yacht club's Womens team.

Roles:

  • Managing the strategic direction of Yachting Western Australia (YWA) to achieve the required goals as established by the Board of Management (Board) and in accordance with the strategic plan and policies laid down by the Board.
  • Direct the day to day operations of YWA including allocation of duties to and supervision of YWA staff to ensure that stakeholder expectations are met.
  • Maintain and build relationships between YWA and its Member Clubs and Associations so as to maximise value delivered.
  • Maintain and build relationships between YWA and Government agencies and other relevant entities but not limited to DSR, WASF, DOT, Healthway, WA Olympic Committee, WAIS, Royal Perth YC and Swan River Trust.
  • Optimise the relationship between YWA and Yachting Australia to ensure that their respective strategies are aligned and co-ordinated.
  • Manage the marketing and promotion strategies ensuring a key communications strategy is adopted and implemented to the benefit of YWA Members.
  • Manage the YWA Budget. Liaise with the Treasurer in the preparation of monthly accounts, management of debtors and creditors, cash-flow and investment and completion of annual audit in conjunction with appointed auditors.
  • Reporting to the Board, both directly at Board meetings and through the relevant Standing Committees, on the operating performance of YWA and on any breakdowns in compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Reporting to the Board on the development and implementation of risk management plans and member protection policies.
  • Advising the Board on compliance with regulatory obligations and provisions of the YWA Constitution and By-Laws.

  • My Club and My Centre data base training with clubs affiliated clubs and associations
  • State Sailing Squad
  • Accreditation of officials (judges, umpires, measurers) in coordination with relevant YWA committees
  • Accreditation of instructors (every 5 years)

Grant Hunt: Manager RTO/RST

Bio:

Grant joined Australian Sailing as the Manager RTO/RST.

Prior to this he had ten years as a Marine Training Program Officer with the Department of Transport (Marine Safety), and a eight years managing a non-profit foundation Small Boats Institute, in both instances involved in small vessel Marine Training.

Grant has been involved with the Volunteer Marine Rescue since 1975.

Grant was involved in the development of the Recreational Skipper’s Ticket and trained forty five assessors

Grant is responsible for the following at Yachting WA;

  • Managing the Registered Training Organisation functions
  • Ensuring we meet all National Standards for the programs conducted
  • Coordinate all accredited RTO training
  • Plan, deliver, assess and process all documentation regarding accredited training
  • Is the designated Department of Transport RST/RTO Coordinator for Yachting WA for its RST Assessors and responsible for;

-        Appraising RST applications presented by YWA assessors for processing and correctness

-        Inducting RST Assessors

-        Assisting assessors

-        Auditing assessors
