Get Active Sailing launched
Yachting Victoria CEO Steve Walker outlined the features of Get Active Sailing, initially asking the assembled audience if they could consider friends, family and colleagues that they know, that would benefit from an opportunity to Get Active Sailing. These benefits outlined would range from social, lifestyle, health, fun and adventure, and could be lifelong. The benefits to clubs and to sailing was also contemplated if all members actively took part in Get Active Sailing by attracting these people to their club and to sailing through a tailored program. President Ian Cunningham and Inclusion Manager Sam Watson then unveiled the banner to officially launch Get Active Sailing. Ian, Steve and Sam, as well as Gavin Wall then took questions from interested club delegates.
What is Get Active Sailing?
Get Active Sailing is a program developed in conjunction with VicHealth to get inactive people active through the sport of sailing. Through the use of proven sailing programs (Discover Sailing days, Discover Sailing courses, Woman & Girls in Sailing, Sailability and clubs twilight social sailing) matched to targeted groups, we are looking to further grow sailing in Victoria.
Yachting Victoria has identified the following groups as the ideal demographic for our member clubs, due to the connection they will already have with our sport and your club:
- Family members of current club members
- Friends and colleagues of current club members.
How will Get Active Sailing benefit your club?
Through further engagement with your members and their family, friends and colleagues Get Active Sailing, using proven programs, will increase activity around your club, ongoing participation and ultimately club membership.
Yachting Victoria are looking to confirm all participating clubs in Get Active Sailing in the coming weeks. Interested clubs are urged to contact Sam Watson, swatson@yachtingvictoria.com.au
