Smoke Free Policy


for Yachting SA and its Affiliated Clubs


Yachting SA Inc recognises that passive smoking is hazardous to health and that non-smokers should be protected from tobacco smoke.


Accordingly, the following policy of Yachting SA Inc. applies to all premises owned, leased or rented by Yachting SA as from July 1999.  This policy applies to all members, administrators, officials, coaches, players and visitors of Yachting SA Inc.


Yachting SA Inc policy requires that the following areas shall be smoke-free:

?         all offices and administration areas

?         bars, dining, eating and office areas are smoke-free

?         change rooms and toilet blocks are smoke-free

?         cigarettes are not to be sold (including from vending machines)

?         smoking is not permitted in indoor spectator viewing and playing areas

?         outdoor spectator grandstands and enclosed seated areas are smoke-free

?         access to grandstands and enclosed seated areas, toilets and food outlets are smoke-free

and further Yachting SA requires that:

?         when our premises are hired out, the venue will continue to be smoke-free

?         all affiliated sailing clubs are encouraged to promote and adopt smoke-free behaviour in their premises

?         all sailors and officials are encouraged to adopt smoke-free behaviour

?         all social functions (including junior events, dinners and meetings) of the organisation are smoke-free

?         all coaches, trainers, volunteers and officials are required to refrain from smoking while they are acting in an official capacity

?         all sailors and officials are required to refrain from smoking at official Yachting SA functions

?         smoke-free behaviour will be incorporated into the code of behaviour for coaches

?         the effects of smoking on performance will be discussed with junior players


Non-compliance with this policy will result in the offending person being reminded of Yachting SA Policy and should they fail to comply with the request that person will be requested by an officer of Yachting SA to leave the venue if the offence continues.
