Tassie Championships results

The Tasmanian Hansa Class Championships were held yesterday at Derwent Sailing Squadron in Hobart.

Sailors competed in the 2.3 and 303 divisions with 5 races across the day.

The morning two races were sailed in extremely light conditions with honours being shared in both races and divisions.

Following a BBQ lunch, the winds picked up significantly, and the final three races of the day were a lot more lively than the first two.

Racing was close across the fleets, with the winners in both divisions being decided on count back.

Craig Escott and Julie Pearson were tied at the end of the 2.3 event, with 'Esky' awarded the win on count back.

Local stalwart Rod Viney had a battle on his hands with Chris Symonds from Wynyard and were also tied on points at days end. Rod, with 3 bullets to his name, was awarded the win on countback.

AHCA President Russell Phillips was in town and awarded the prizes and also drew the Golden Egg prize for this regatta. The winner - Craig Escott - will receive a free entry to the Nationals at Goolwa plus $250 prizemoney.

Several of the Tassie sailors will be making their way to Goolwa to compete at the AHCA Nationals from April 17th to 21st in preparation for when Derwent Sailing Squadron hosts the 2015 AHCA National Championships at Easter 2015.
