Melbourne's Docklands Short Course Racing continues

Racing in the Melbourne Docklands Yacht Club annual Short Course Series got underway on October 6th with some tricky wind shifts providing some great racing.

Four competitors - Mike Bishop, Louis Patterson, Hayley Pearse and Shauna Phillips - were all racing for the first time... proving that this event is not just for the experienced sailors, but provides a great introduction to racing for the novice in smaller fleets in a protected environment.

Experienced sailors Beck West, Roy Jewell, Neil Patterson and Russell Phillips were keen to lend the newbies some advice and assistance.

Racing is on one Sunday a month until April - more details and results from week one are available from the Docklands Yacht Club website by following the attached link.

November's scheduled racing was cancelled due to strong winds, so the Short Course racers took to the waters again on December 15th for another round of racing.

Crew and boat changes, plus another new sailor making his debut in racing, saw a mixture of results in the divisions.

Racing will resume in the New Year on January 5th

The latest leg of Short Course racing at Docklands saw 6 races held on January 19th (having been postponed from the 5th). Fresh, gusty breezes made conditions very interesting for the newer competitors and most enjoyable for the more experienced hands.

A few minor breakages and some gusty winds and choppy conditions were in contrast to early racing days, and kept the competitors on their toes all day.

The next scheduled short course event is February 2nd.
