Even TAS F11 Championship after Round One

Start of Race 5
Bernd Meyer, Beauty Point, Monday, 29 November 2010

The most competitive F11 field seen in years.

We had six entries this year , one more than in 2009, which provided the most competitive field seen in years. Even only with 6 boats we had plenty of close encounters around the bouys and on the course.

The Championship started very slowly on Saturday with a virtual glass top in the morning. We came in for an early lunch and decided to hold the Tas F11 meeting while we were waiting. Wind of sorts after 3-30, finally made it possible to start Race 1. That race was shortened and won by 1255 NV , ably skippered by Matthew Connelley for a guest appearance in the F11 fold and crewed by Adrienne from Hobart. 1280 Gatecrasher skippered by Briony Van Galen and ably assisted by Hamish Denholm came in second

The conditions were near perfect on Sunday with a 12 to 15 knot breeze from the southwest. It was decided to run shorter races to catch up on Saturday. Competitors and spectators alike applauded the PRO’ move. Consequently we managed to finish 5 races.

Notable performances were 1307 Beyond the Edge( sailed by Clare Cromarty, who came out of retirement with her new upcoming crew, Jim Conn) three firsts in the morning, 1258 Flying Colours (Michael Meyer with new crew Isobel Cameron) four second placings for the day, and 1255 NV continued consistent performances. 1019 C. King (Seb King and sidekick Jack Melton)and 1055 Fair Weather Johnson (Peter Cameron with son Eli), provided excellent competition at numerous stages of most races.

Currently only 7 points separates the three top boats.

See the TYC website for full details Many thanks to all participants, Tamar Yacht Club with all its willing helpers, the Principal Race Officer and parents who enjoyed a rewarding weekend for all.
