"I have again come to realise that there is nothing anywhere in the world as suitable for 10 to 18 year olds as the F11's. "

"Fantastic boats in a breeze, incomparable on reaches, physically testing at times, tolerant of a wide range of weights, light skippers can match up with heavier crews, heavier and rapidly growing skippers can remain competitive by using smaller younger crews, thereby introducing the younger ones to the class. "

"Sensible class rules allow minor developments and the opportunity for some individualisation - important if our young sailors are to fully develop knowledge and skills. M
ore than competitive with any other boat of similar size in any conditions, and despite its relatively long history, still "state of the art"?"

"This boat has some history but has also stood the test of time....  If you were going to redesign it for the next 20 years there is little that you would want to change."

2008-2009 NSW F11 State Championships - Round 1

If you haven't already done so, it's time to get your entry in for the NSW State Champs with the first round starting Sat & Sun 6/7th December at Gosford Sailing Club.

The Notice of Race and On-Line Entry are now available on our F11 website under the menu Calendar, or by using one of the various links provided here in this newsletter.

The Sailing Instructions will be available for downloading in the near future so stay tuned to our F11 website for further information.

The entry fees have not been changed for some years now even though all our costs have (gone up), so this is a great value regatta series. Keep an eye on the close off date for the discount entry fee which is the 24th November when the "late fee" applies for round 1 at Gosford.

We are very grateful for our big supporter 1824(TM) Premium Beef to be sponsoring the series this year and trust you will be enjoying their products at the regatta.

Notice of Race For NSW and National Titles - Important Clauses 3a & 3b

Please take note of the modifications to the RRS 2005-2008 in our Notice of Race[s] for our States and our National titles where we have changed the need for you to now have a red flag if you wish to protest in these regattas [see rule 3a of the NoRs], and where the protest committee can impose other penalties other than disqualification [see rule 3b of the NoRs].

Michael Blackburn and Malcolm Page Seminars at MHYC

The Middle Harbour Yacht Club are running two seminars which are very interesting and well worth booking to see for all our young sailors.

The first one is this Friday 7th November with two times gold medallist Michael Blackburn speaking on "Fitness - National Dinghy Championship Preparation and the second is on Wednesday 19th November with Gold Medallist and previous F11 National Champion Malcolm Page speaking on "Winning Your Next Regatta - Tactics & Strategies".

You must book on line and the cost is a mere $10. How can you go wrong with this information passed on to you at these seminars!

Here is the link to book on line

2008 McGrath Upper Harbour Championships Report

The McGrath Upper Harbour Championships and the Dash For Cash has been run on the first day of this month, Saturday 1st November from Lane Cove 12ft Skiff Sailing Club, with two All Girl crews battling it out for the championship title ahead of the boys on this occasion.

Olivia Price and Maddie Clancy in 1363 CRUNCHIE M16'SSC managed to slip passed local girls Claire Lunsmann and Melinda Smith in 1293 RELENTLESS LC12'SSC on the last downwind leg to be first over the line in the very tricky conditions of the day.

The Dash For Cash event was won by Hunters Hill SC crew 1358 DECOY Declan Rohr and Alex Paton.

2009-2012 Racing Rules Of Sailing [new Blue Book]

Have a squizz at the new RRS 2009-2012 "Blue Book" which takes effect from January 1 2009.

Here are the new rules with the amendments highlighted in red - 2009-2012 Blue Book Showing Changes to 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing .

You can also download the new rules via the links in the side columns of this newsletter.

F11 Training Camp 20/21/22 December

Middle Harbour looks to be the venue for the Pre-Nationals [Xmas] F11 Training Camp run over 3 days on the 20th-22nd December.

All details will be sent out via an invitation shortly, so keep these dates available for some more fun and profit on the waters of the sound at Sydney Heads in the lead up to the very exciting 2009 F11 Nationals at Twofold Bay, Eden.

Eden Nationals Update

No real news to pass on just yet, but the excitement is building and I know the fleet will not be disappointed with the venue and the sailing down at Eden.

The wonderful support crew from Avalon Sailing Club have put up their hand to conduct our Welcome Night BBQ and the other preparations are running smoothly so far.

We have just received the new "rashies" all logo'ed up from Zhik, one of our sponsors at the nationals which will be part of your welcome pack and included in your entry fee. These are great quality and it will certainly be worth the effort to come to the Eden nationals just so you can get one of these collector items alone, oh and the sailing will be awesome too.

The Notice of Race will be posted onto the web very soon - it's just at the YNSW organisation being ratified at this present moment in time.

Editors Ramble

Hunters Hill SC have been working on cementing the date for next year's NSW F11 Sprints so you will be able to put it in your calendar early this time around.

I mucked up the dates on the link itself for the nationals in our last newsletters but I've gone back and amended the error and the dates shown on the website are now the correct ones - 11th to 17th January 2009 - sorry if this spun out a few "on the ball" viewers.

There is plenty more good news to tell but I'll keep it for next time. Get cracking on the states entry and look at the NoR amendments so you are prepared at the regatta - just in case!

Have a fun month

Catch you at the NSW States R1,
