Name: Declan Rohr
Date Of Birth: 23/01/1992
Current F11 Boat And Who Is Your Crewmate: Decoy, Alex Paton
Current Club: HHSC
How Long Have You Been Sailing F11s: 6 years
Tell Your Sailing History In Brief [100 words]: At the age of six, I was first put into a boat with my brother, who has taught me basically everything I know, sometimes with force :). I then moved up and steered my own sabot, going to 2nd at Sabot nationals in NQ, at the same time I was crewing with Ned Daven in 1320 for Brisbane and Woollahra nationals. After that I sailed sabots 1-UP and got a 6th overall, while beginning my F11 campaign, in 1277 with James Bloomfield. I sailed with Alex Paton in my new boat, Decoy, this year and got 10th at nationals. I also openly participate at CYC youth programs over winter.
What Other Boats/Classes Do You Currently Sail/Skipper/Crew: Flying 11s, sometimes a 29er, and Elliots
What’s Your Most Memorable Sailing Achievement: Winning my first state titles in a sabot, with Ravi Raj
What’s Your Most Favourite Sailing Memory [50 words]: The first time I went sailing at HHSC, I was taken out in a mirror a gust came and we capsized I got caught under the boat, tangled up in the ropes and was unable to move. Luckily the "mentor" came under and helped me.
Who Would Be Your Sailing Mentor: My two older brothers.
What Do You Like about the F11s [50 words]: The feeling of bearing away at the top mark and setting the kite after a tiring upwind leg, and feeling the boat just take off. The competition up the top of the fleet is also remarkable, there is not a minutes rest up the front, as I well found out at nationals time.
What Are Your Future Sailing Goals: Top 3 F11 Nationals. Move up into bigger and faster boats, 29er, 49er, 18's
What Would You Like To See Happen In F11s: I would love to see the competition up the front be more spread out to have more competition, as well as improvements with the boats, to make them go faster....
